Hey loves! I am back to blogging! Today, the Lord pressed into my heart about marriage. I know it is engagement and wedding season, but before you start desiring what those couples have, let's understand God's way of marriage.
In Genesis 1:26-27, God says, "Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.” So God created human beings in His own image. In the image of God He created them; male and female He created them. Therefore, we are all created in God's image.
Also, in Genesis 2:7 it says, then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person. Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.” 19 So the Lord God formed from the ground all the wild animals and all the birds of the sky. He brought them to the man[c] to see what he would call them, and the man chose a name for each one. 20 He gave names to all the livestock, all the birds of the sky, and all the wild animals. But still there was no helper just right for him. So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep. While the man slept, the Lord God took out one of the man’s ribs[d] and closed up the opening. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man.
So what do these scriptures have to do with marriage, exactly? Well, in Genesis 1:26-27, God tells us He created us. Therefore, if God created us in His image, then our behavior should mirror Him. Our behavior, in marriage and in relationships, should be from a place of love. In 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, it states Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. Then, in Genesis 2:18, it states that God said it not good for a man to be alone so he made woman to be man's helper. (This is a key point!). The last few verses speak on how woman are created from man's rib.
Now that you have had time to mediate on the scripture, let me tell you what God spoke to me: Over the past year and half, I have learned that marriage is ministry.
The definition of ministry is the act of serving.
When we typically think of ministries, we think of soup kitchen ministries, or women's ministry, not marriage. Nevertheless, marriage's key concept is serving! We are to serve our spouses. God even created women to help or serve our husbands. Our husbands are to serve us as well. Marriage is two-fold; this means that there are two parts to it. We are to serve our spouses and in return, they will serve us. When I was younger and even just two years ago, I always thought of a boyfriend or husband, in terms of what he could do for me! For example, I would always say I wanted a husband that made six figures, handsome, educated, and would spoil me! Never once did I think of what I could do for him! Now, I get excited about serving my future husband! I get excited about being his help-meet! Being able to do something for someone and not expect anything is a great feeling!
How can you serve your future husband?
• Prepare dinner for your husband, after he has had a tiring day
• Prepare breakfast in the morning
• Ask him does he need help preparing at night for the day ahead
• Writing encouraging notes or texts
• Surprising him with a gift that has been wanting
• Plan a day for him, if he has had a stressful week
• Pray for him.
• Tell him how much you appreciate him
• Remind him to have his quiet time
• Support him when he wants to do something new
• Remind him to eat healthy and exercise
• Don’t add stress to his life. For example, don’t start an argument for no reason.
• Don’t nag your husband to do something.
• Spend quality time with your husband instead of doing something else
• Love him unconditionally.
• Prepare a goodie bag for him, so you can pull it out on days, your hubby is having a bad day.
That is how God wants us! He wants us to unselfishly, serve our husbands. Just like the scripture said, God is over Christ, Christ is over man, and man is over woman. When he have husbands that are in the image of God, we won’t have a problem doing this. So if you don't learn anything from this blog, do not get married or enter a courtship/relationship with someone, if you do not want to serve! Be blessed :)
